What happens to recycled glass?
Glass is recyclable without losing quality over time, and recycling glass saves energy and resources, making recycling a great option for glass waste, though it is underutilized.
- Glass is collected through a recycling program.
- Glass is sorted. Non-glass materials will be removed, as well as any non-recyclable glass materials.
- Glass is cleaned and crushed into small pieces, also known as cullet, which can be used for manufacturing more easily.
- Certain colors of cullet must be used to produce certain results.
- Cullet is mixed with new materials, fed into a glass furnace, and formed into the final product.
- New glass containers are shipped out and reused.
